Well where do I start.. since I last wrote I can't believe I have been to Holland and back! I didn't feel too well yesterday and was really tired so I didn't update my blog. I didn't sleep at all last night, was up all the time and the nurses had to give me most of my meds during the night that were due today cos of my travels. The day started off at 6.30 this morning, I had shredded wheat for breakie and got dressed. First I tried on my skinny pink jeans which I couldn't get on and then my skinny blue jeans which I couldn't get on either! I'm swollen at the moment because there is lots of fluid in my body which isn't coming out. I tried on two pairs of shoes which wouldn't go one me either!! In the end I managed to get my black jeans on and my crocs. The ambulance came and off we went with the sirens on it was very exciting. The ambulance took us right onto the tarmac and onto the plane we got. The plane was tiny. It just about fitted me, mummy, daddy, Leanne and Jane the Paramedic. Jane has to sit on the case that was carrying my meds. It was a really smooth flight, just 1 hour and a half. We got to Leyden and the ambulance was waiting for us on the tarmac and took us straight to the hospital. The ambulance was really small, too small for mummy and daddy to fit in so they went in a medi taxi, they got there before me! The hospital is so huge and amazing. All the nurses wear white and wear masks which was a bit scary! My room was really sunny and bright. I had some really nice soup for lunch while I was waiting on my stem cells to come. Mummy had to sign a consent form in Dutch, she said it was double Dutch :-). Anyway after about an hour the stem cells came, in a little bag, they are clear white, just like water and took fifteen minutes to transfuse. The Doc said that he hadn't seen any side effects from the actual cells but from the chemicals they use to defrost the cells as they are frozen. After I had my transfusion everyone was staring at me waiting for something to happen, I got a bit nervous and thought I couldn't breathe..!! But I was grand it was only cos everyone was staring at me!! We left the hospital within about 2 hours, it was so quick. We were back in the ambulance and on the plane in no time. The landing back in Newcastle was a bit bumpy, Mummy was sweating.. she took all her rescue drops on the way over and had none left!! We saw Hilary Clinton and The Prime Minister of Afghanistan at the airport! I started to feel really sick on the way home and couldn't wait to land. My tummy was really sore and was so glad to get back to my room. Dad carried all the bags, it was like we were going away for weeks! The doc came in to see me and said that I did really well and we would wait and see if the cells start to grow and fix my gut. He also said that if I was still swollen tomorrow he would give me some medicine. Also the big news is he said that they are reducing my steroids tomorrow! So we are progressing with things. After I got back to my room I started to feel better. I had rice for my tea and I feel so much better and comfy. When I got back to my room Jackie had cleaned and made it lovely, she also made my bed with a lovely pink duvet and pillow. Thanks Jackie!!! Jane hope you managed to get on my blog and thanks so much for today! Leanne, we might be doing it again :-) Thanks lots too. Am tired now gonna sleep, hopefully for the night!! Love Naoise xxx

  2. Well that post was worth waiting for. What a day! I saw your pictures, they look great, the plane is so small. I think I would have been nervous on such a small plane.

I had to laugh when you said everyone was staring at you after the transfusion - did they think you were going to spontaneously combust?

Getting back sounds like such a relief, a plane is not a good place to be with a sick tummy. Great news about reducing the steroids!

I really hope those stem cells start to do their thing and fast!

Thanks for the really detailed post tonight, and all the photos, it was really nice to see snapshots of your big day.

I have everything crossed that you'll sleep tonight.

    Lots of love,
    George

  3. Hi Naoise
Wow what a day, you look brilliant in the photos, it was great to see all the photos and well done to whoever took all the photos. I am glad to hear you are feeling better when you got back, i'd say your so tired after your jetsetting, the bag looks great and love your jumper that colour blue is so nice on you.
have you any tricks up your sleeve for April fools tomorrow. Last year we switched classes, no one knew. This year we are going to stay in our own class but dress like the other one so the teacher thinks that we have switched, then we will say can we go back to our own class which is really the wrong class and totally confuse the teachers they won't know what to believe, will let you know tomorrow what happens.
Getting Easter holidays on Friday, looking foward 2 weeks off. Hope your feeling much better by easter and you can eat lots of chocolate eggs. Better go now, talk tommorrow
    Lots of Love

  4. Hi Naoise,

OMG what a day you all have had. One minute your in your room in Newc and the next your in a room in Holland ! Everybody was dying to know how you got on today and I kept checking your blog to see if there was any news because I dont like ringing your mum all the time in case you are asleep etc. What a fantastic blog and the photos tell the story by themselves. I Was just thiking as I looked at them (twice ! ) - it will be fantastic to look back on all this and recapture what you went through - its a brill idea especially the pics.

Please God hopefully you will feel a difference v soon. I had a sick tummy last night (for the first time in ages) and I was up during the night and thought of you immediately. Luckily mine passed pretty soon as I wouldnt be a good patient like you !

Well would you believe David is still outside playing - im about to take him in. Matt is reading Sean a story and Cillian is not long gone asleep. Do you remember the time Cillian had the reflux and puked on Sean's head in the shop ? We were all in stitiches laughing at it running down his face until we realised that Sean wasn't laughing - he was bawling crying !I thought you lot were going to be sick too from all the laughing!!

Anyhow must sign off here now. I hope you have a lovely nights sleep pg and you feel good tomorrow.

All our love and best wishes - thanks for todays story and pics they're great.

    Love,

  5. Hi Naoise,

Wow that was an action packed day. Thank you for such a detailed post and for all the pictures because I am sure you are all knackered. I could think of nothing else today but how you were getting on, I must of rang your Nanna and Grandad about ten times looking for updates.

The plane was tiny, I was expecting it to be a bit bigger. I'd say it was exciting driving to the airport with the sirens on. I got a police escort once to collect Kiel from creche (not sure if I ever told you that story) and I found it very exciting driving at speed through east wall behind the police motorbike!!

I hope those stem cells start to work soon and that your tummy starts to feel better. Please god you will all get a good night sleep.
    Lots of love,
    Aunty Audy

  6. Hi Naoise,
It must have been such an exciting day for you! The ambulance must have been teeny tiny. The plane journey was very short. I hope your tummy wasn't too bad on the plane. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm getting my holidays on Friday. Can't wait! I'm going to HSM on Saturday with my friend Eve, I'm so excited. Caitlin went swimming today for the first time ever.

    Missing you loads, from Sadhbh

  7. Hi Naoise,
I hope you are fast asleep as I post this - you must be exhausted after your day. Hard to believe you went to Holland and back in such a short time! It was great to see the pictures too. None of us thought about anything else today but where you might be and how you might be getting on. Great news about the steroids.

I hope those stem cells do their thing, and quickly too, you so deserve a break.

Take care honey, lots of love, Paula

Thats mad that the plane and ambulance was so small! When i did my sky dive last year the plance was tiny, it was so small i had to sit on my instructors lap!!

I cant believe you saw Hiliary Clinton in the airport! Your all i thought about all day. Great news about the reduced steroids. I hope the stem cells do their thing and fast.

I really hope you have a good nights sleep tonight. Take care.

  9. Hi Naoise
I am smiling from ear to ear....that is the lovliest post. You looked beautiful today. I hope you have a very good night tonight and that those little stem cells do great things for you. You deserve it so much.
The photos were brilliant...your bag and flowery top went very well together. I can't wait to show Jack, Caoimhe, Cormac & Donncha the photos. I'm guessing Jack will be full of questions, Caoimhe will be so impressed by your private plane (even if it is small) as will Cormac & Donncha is going to wet himself with joy to see a plane & you together in the one picture!!
I wonder did Hilary & the Prime Minister of Afghanistan realise they were in the presence of a brilliant young girl. They were very honoured to come so close to you!
Your Mum & Dad looked great too - I am sure you are all exhausted & glad to be back in your lovely tidy room. Nothing as nice as fresh sheets. Hope you have a really good nights sleep. Lots of Love, Aisling
